Abadia Retuerta
Abadía Retuerta was established near the village of Sardón de Duero in Castilla y León in
1996 with 210 hectares under vine. Each one of the 54 plots is planted with a single variety,
best matched to the microclimate. Winemaker Pascal Delbeck (the owner of Château Ausone in
Saint-Émilion) completely redesigned the winery around a gravity-flow system, so that grapes
and wines would not need to be pumped around the facility. The 5,000 barrel capacity winery
has been cut into the mountainside.
