Domaine A.F. Gros

Anne-Françoise and François’ children, Mathias and Caroline, are the 13th generation of this grand Burgundian wine dynasty. With an average 60% loss across their holdings, 2021 is the most petite vintage ever at the domaine. We tasted the vintage with Caroline, who noted that it was an interesting vintage to vinify, requiring great attention to the extraction of tannins and colour. She described 2021 as, “More classic than previous vintages, with round and silky tannins.” Mathias continues to refine their barrique ageing; for 2021 there is a maximum of 30% new oak for village and Premier Crus and between 50-80% for the Grand Crus. The wider Gros families exchanged some vineyards: 2022 will see Clos Vougeot and more Echezeaux at A.F. Gros, with a parcel of Richebourg used in exchange.
