Producer
Cantina Nottola was a moribund 18th century estate when purchased in the 1980s by Anterivo Giomarelli, who proceeded to double the vineyard area to 20 hectares, build a winery, and restore the whole property. His son, Giuliano, is now in charge of Nottola and oversees the winemaking of oenologist Riccardo Cotarella. Winemaking is largely traditional using very large Slavonian oak casks, although there are some French oak tonneaux and barriques for finishing the Riserva wines.
Winemaking
Hand harvested and de-stemmed. Fermented in stainless steel tank. 18 day maceration. Aged in Slavonian oak for 24 months.
Tasting Note
Ripe nose of black cherry, plums and smoke. The palate is medium bodied and elegant, with ripe fruit, hints of violets and supple tannins.
Food Matching
Grilled lamb and pork dishes. Cured meats.
