2021 Richebourg, Grand Cru, Domaine A. F. Gros

A.F. Gros currently has 0.6 hectares of Richebourg, spread across the two climats: Les Richebourg and Les Verroilles sous Richebourg. From 2022 they will have 0.472 hectares due to an exchange of vineyards within the wider Gros family. The average age of the vines is 80 years, and they are replanting 10% of the vineyard each year to secure its future. Richebourg was the wine that re-defined the domaine on the international stage when their 2015 vintage outscored every other Richebourg in a significant blind tasting in Burgundy. Aloof, soulful, and brilliant, all soaring aromatics initially and then inward facing minerality that coats the mouth. A triumph in 2021 and surely a candidate for one of the wines of the vintage, it effortlessly achieves the magic trick of appearing at once massively powerful but also weightless.
