Style – Dry, Red, Medium Bodied
Grapes – Sangiovese
Region – Tuscany, Italy
Winemaking - This eponymous wine is 100% Sangiovese from high altitude sites around Radda. The grapes are picked late to get maximum ripeness from these beautiful high-lying vineyards. Fermented in cement tanks with 20% whole bunches. The long maceration of 4 months gives the wine a wonderful lifted fruit character, which differentiates it from the more classic styles. Imagine a Morgon from Foillard, but made from Sangiovese and grown in the Tuscan hills. Organic. Drink now-2028.
What it tastes like - Il Guercio is another striking wine in this range. A dollop of whole clusters brings out a very pretty upper register of Alpine herbs, rose, petal and mint to play off pristine Sangiovese fruit. Exquisite and ethereal, Il Guercio pushes the boundaries of Chianti Classico (the region). It is a beautiful, captivating wine full of personality and soul.
