La Jurisdiccion Godello
Premier Cru Chablis step aside, there's a new kid on the block.
Producer
Vinos Lof was born out of a desire to turn the old family vineyards into something special. Throughout five generations the family had acquired various plots throughout Bierzo that were traditionally sold as bulk to cooperatives, but in 2013 Hector and Victor (5th generation) transformed the winery into taking a more ‘burgundian’ approach expressing their terroir with very low intervention and biodynamic principles.
Production
The grapes are harvested mainly from the town of Villalibre de ‘La Jurisdicción’ from vines of different ages; from old vineyards grafted in the Godello variety to fields barely 3 years old. The vineyards are situated north facing on the mountainside south of the Bercian region and the grapes are picked early to retain acidity and freshness. Soft soils with fine slate in clay ravines aids in the complex flavours . In the winery a pneumatic press gently presses the grapes, natural fermentation takes place in stainless steel and the resulting wine is left on its fine lees in oak barrells for several months after which it is mechanically filtered.
Tasting Note
Citrus, flowers and white fruit on the nose and palate with a rich texture, vertical acidity and citrus peel bitterness that offers varietal character and uniqueness in the wine.
