Stauning Whiskey Co, El Clasico Whisky

Danish distiller Stauning has hand-crafted an intriguing whisky inspired by the fusion of rye whisky and vermouth in the legendary Manhattan cocktail.  Twice distilled with a rye heavy mashbill of locally sourced grains, the spirit was matured in new American oak casks, then underwent a finishing period in Spanish Vermouth casks. The end result is a whisky with an intense freshness, a bitter hint of herbs and sweet finish.  Perfect in a custom cocktail, or neat, accompanied by a select cigar as Stauning recommends. 

Tasting Notes

Nose – The nose is filled with the scent of apples, oranges, ripe plums, spices, cinnamon and burnt caramel.

Palate –  The lips meet with a sweet and biting kiss of dried fruit, citrus and painted pepper.

Finish –  The warm aftertaste with bittersweet notes of wormwood lingers in the body for a long time.
