The inaugural, global release of Poggio Lametano Vino Rosso 2020 .

A total production of only 1333 bottles, each individually hand numbered and signed. The first vintage is 2020. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese from organic hillside vineyards — some of the highest in the area.

This endeavour is non-profit: all money raised from our first vintage will go to curing motor neurone disease.

We make the style of wine we want to drink, distinctive to other famous wines of the area. Like our Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the wine is bold and delicious, and at home on humble dining tables as well as the worlds’ finest restaurants, or in collectors’ cellars.

We continue to be inspired by the Super Tuscans. But we do not claim to be super, instead we make an Extra Tuscan Wine by placing the character of the vineyards first, and blending native Sangiovese to best articulate Bolgheri’s true terroir.

The organically farmed vineyards are some of the highest in the region of Bolgheri, nestled along the ridgeline of hilltop town of Castegento Carducci. Our terroir benefits by this altitude and exposure to cooling coastal breezes, giving us more freshness than many of the region’s wine. But it is the vineyard soils which give Poggio Lamentano its special character. The mixed ‘galestro’ clay and sandy soils lend supple tannins, and earthy spice, whilst the calcareous soil, rare to the area give a stony, fine minerality to our wine. Fermentation and maturation take place in steel, and cement to maintain this vibrant vineyard character.

Tasting Note
Dark glossy crimson, with bright purple flashes. The nose is deeply fruited, damson and black cherry swirl with notes of wild rose, cracked black pepper and tomato pulp. The immediate sensation on the palate is the texture, this wine is fleshly and ripe, typical of the heady richness of the 2020 vineyards with a bright sheen.

Flavours of plum, cherry and blackberries fill the mouth, seasoned by an earthy, savoury tang of Sangiovese framed by a plump, pulpy tannins. The end of the palate of our first vintage is this wine’s triumph; a generous twist of wild Tuscan herbs, carried by a long, rocky mineral finish.
