Meet Raul Calle and his range!
Following the success of our Sierra de Gredos tasting we thought we would do a round up on one of our favourite producers in the area - Raúl Calle!
Forestry Engineer turned Winemaker! Raúl started studying to become an Sommelier and then his wife, Laura, joined in too. Making their first vintage in 201, the two of them are a now a winemaking force with 4 Hectares of vineyards on the outskirts of Sotillo in the Sierra de Gredos hills, Spain. Originally making the wines in their garage, they have recently moved to a small winery. The vines are organic with no treatments & made free from additions, no sulphites & bottled unfiltered after ageing in a mixture of stainless steel, old oak barrels & amphora.
Raúl and Laura’s wines are clean, with rich, complex fruit, tons of energy, great balancing acidity, lots of life.
Their Picaflor White made from 100% Malavar, is full of luscious salted caramel notes balanced with a zesty freshness. Intense but gentle, rich yet biting, a great all rounder
Churumbi, their rosado made from Garnatxa bursts with wonderful spicy, nutty and rich flavours. Red cherry, raspberry, orange and zesty fruit it is a very refreshing and interesting wine with some grip on the finish. Nude is their first semi-carbonic maceration Garnatxa, with no barrel ageing to add any makeup, thus Nude. It's full of energy, both dense and airy, concentrated nutty, smokey, red berry fruit, pure, great tannic structure around frame of mouth.Naturi T, their Tempranillo aged in old American oak barrels is super ripe, pure and energetic. Full of fruit particularly cassis and dark berry super lively and fresh.
